Title: Something Like Fate

Release Date: May 4th, 2010
Publisher: Viking Juvenile
Age: Young Adult
Lani and Erin are bonded for life. One thing that connects them is their fascination of fate. Lani wonders how much of our lives has already been decided and how much we can actually influence. Since the Unknown can unexpectedly change our lives forever, how much can we really control?
From the minute Lani meets Jason, she can't deny the intense connection they share. It feels like she's known him forever. She's not sure if he feels it, too. But it doesn't matter. Because Jason is Erin's boyfriend. Lani is determined to ignore her feelings for Jason, no matter how powerful they are, rather than risk hurting her best friend.
How long can Lani keep running from the boy who might be her destiny?
Something Like Fate is a sweet story about friendship, fate and love.

Lani is a green girl; simple, fun and casual. Her best friend, Erin, is more popular and outgoing, so at first I didn't understand why they were friends. She was superficial, sometimes mean, didn't seem to need Lani as her best friend.

The story begins with Jason. He went out with Erin and ended up liking Lani. So why didn't he just say it? It was confusing. Instead, they started a very innocent friendship, which I ended up liking, because it was very sweet and usually romances starts this way.

I think it was interesting how important was fate in this book. It's maybe the only thing Lani and Erin shared, the love for the stars, cards, tarot...the unknown. Every day the check out their horoscopes, and even when I don't believe on it, I thought it was different.

On the other side, I just thought there was so much drama for something so simple. It was as if Lani was afraid of Erin, and instead of confronting her for her actions, she stayed quited and let her "friend" do really mean things to her. I don't think what she did was so wrong, it wasn't as if she went out with Jason while he was with Erin.

But still, I enjoyed reading it. There were other secondary characters I also liked and had an interesting story going on, and the ending was happy.

Overall, this is a great book, specially for the ones looking for a light reading.
