The Girl In the Park by Mariah Fredericks- ADVISABLE

Fredericks, Mariah. The Girl in the Park, 217 pgs. Random House Books, 2012. $16.99. Language PG-13 (4 swears, 0 ‘f’), Sexual Content PG-13, Violence PG-13.

Born with a cleft palette that affects her speech, Rain has never spoken up much in school. In junior high she met a girl named Wendy who helped to bring her out of her shell, but they grew apart after Wendy became the school’s wild girl. One morning, Rain wakes up to a phone call from Wendy’s mother telling her that she had never come home the night before. After Wendy’s body is found strangled in a park, the school paints her as a slut who’s actions led to her killing. Rain decides to step out of her comfort zone and take it upon herself to find out who killed her old friend.

I enjoyed this book. Throughout most of the story it seems to be pretty obvious who Wendy’s killer is, but I was surprised at who it really was!

Middle School, High School- ADVISABLE.
