Rubino-Bradway, Caitlen Ordinary Magic, 240 p. Bloomsbury, 2012. $17. Content: G.
On the most important day of her life, Abby doscovers that she is an “Ord”, a person without magic. In a family full of magic, it is hard to take. Abby’s sister, however, runs a school for Ords – a place to keep them safe and teach them how to protect themselves in a world where Ords might be sold or stolen and forced into unpleasant lives. One persistent pair of treasure hunters is determined to get their hands on Abby, or any other Ord, at any price. Rubino-Bradway has written a fine piece of classic magic that would be perfect for the younger Harry Potter crowd. The conver is not particularly appealing or eye-catching, but hopefully one good sell to the right student will get the world out.
