Daniel spends a week away with his father at a resort while trying to come to terms with his mother leaving, as well as trying to deal with his father’s drinking and depression. He isn’t excited about being there until he meets Lexie. He likes her, he thinks she’s smart and funny, and she accepts him the way he is but he knows something unusual is going on when he realizes no else can see her. And why is her watch ticking backwards and the cuts and bruises on her face getting worse each day?
This is a quick read with a male character as the protagonist which may appeal to reluctant readers particularly boys. It is a contemporary story with a mystery and an added touch of the supernatural. The book touches on quite a few serious topics (domestic abuse, drinking, bullying, infidelity) but they are handled in a realistic manner that doesn’t oversimplify the issues but also doesn’t overshadow everything else in the book.
