Phillips, Suzanne Marie Lindsey Lost, 208 pgs. Viking, 2012. $16.99. Language: PG13 (0 swears, 1 “f”); Mature Content: PG13; Violence PG13.
Micah’s sister Lindsey is a vibrant athlete with Olympic potential who is brutally murdered in an orchard. Micah was there, but cannot remember any of the details. He is numb from the event. Each day a little more returns to his memory as he pieces all he knows together. But, he is missing one vital piece of information, that when he hears it, limits the killers to a short list. Is it his father, her coach, her boyfriend, or himself? This is what he must find out if he is going to return to sanity.
Phillips weaves a spellbinding family tale of love, sorrow, envy, and suspicion. She paints a very real picture of what can happen in a family as they try to unravel a murder or disappearance of a loved one. I could not put the book down as I became involved in the story and my desire that Micha be absolved of any involvement in the crime. I was frustrated, though; to see a great thriller demoted, in my view, by one sexually explicit word. The general language of the book did not contain any other swear words. It was out of character because there were many other intense scenes that held no such language.
