Monkey Colors by Darrin Lunde - ADVISABLE

Lunde, Darrin Monkey Colors, 48 pgs. Charlesbridge, 2012. $15.95. Language: G; Mature Content: G; Violence: G

Monkeys live all over the world and come in many different colors. Their colors can tell us a lot about them. Different colors can mean age, gender, or even which monkey deserves to be the leader.

This is a fun book for children who like animals and enjoy learning about them. There is a bit of a jarring switch between the first and second half of the book, however. The beginning of the story is all about colors and written on the level of a young child while the second half focuses on a scientific discussion of primates and the reading level jumps significantly. Overall, the book is enjoyable and will elicit many questions from young readers.
