What We Become by Jesse Karp - ADVISABLE

Karp, Jesse What We Become, 424 p. Harcourt, 2013.  Language: PG-13 (1 ‘f’, 6 other swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG-13 (a few intense fighting scenes).

Laura knows that there is something wrong with her life, but in order to discover the truth, she has to leave her loving family and work with Aaron Argaven – a rich, younger, know-it-all who needs Laura to help him figure out why his father is dead.  Aaron suspects it is part of a larger, world-wide plot by The Old Man, an almost mythic figure who seems to pull the strings of the entire planet.  Mal and Rose on the other hand, are being pursued by The Old Man because Mal knows a secret he needs – a secret that would make The Old Man all powerful.  A secret one of them will die for.

I did not read the first book in this series (I don’t know if it is a pair, a trilogy or more than that), but I never felt like I had to go back and catch up to enjoy what I was reading – and that is a rare thing with so many sequels.

MS – OPTIONAL; HS – ADVISABLE.  Cindy, Library Teacher
