Summary from goodreads.com:
Lena has lived her whole life near the beach—walking for miles up and down the shore and breathing the salty air, swimming in the cold water, and watching the surfers rule the waves—the problem is, she’s spent her whole life just watching.
As her sixteenth birthday approaches, Lena vows she will no longer watch from the sand: she will learn to surf.
But her father – a former surfer himself – refuses to allow her to take lessons. After a near drowning in his past, he can’t bear to let Lena take up the risky sport.
Yet something lures Lena to the water … an ancient, powerful magic. One morning Lena catches sight of this magic: a beautiful woman—with a silvery tail.
Nothing will keep Lena from seeking the mermaid, not even the dangerous waves at Magic Crescent Cove.
And soon … what she sees in the mermaid’s mirror will change her life …
This one is my first mermaid's book, so I was very excited to read it.

It starts very slow. The first chapters are about Lena's life, and really didn't catch me. I felt as if nothing interesting was going to happen, except surfing. Also, I didn't connected with Lena, and that is the main cause of why I didn't like more this book. She acts younger for her age, she is very naive and kind of dumb, and not very interesting. Her biggest problem is that she sleep walks, and she thinks it's because of a brain tumor. Why?! I take offense on that, because when I was younger I sleepwalked and that doesn't mean anything like that!

Anyway, Lena has few friends and a boyfriend she doesn't love feel sure about. Her life is perfect, except that she is missing something, but she doesn't know what it is. But when she sees a mermaid at the beach, maybe she has found it.

When she starts to investigate more about the mermaid (middle of the book), I began to felt interested. She discovers she is more connected with this mermaid than she thought, and that her life have been practically a lie.

The mermaids are the best part. The author creates a world very similar to The Little Mermaid, realistic, where there is almost like a society underwater. The mer-people were interesting. Lena met this hot mermaid-guy, Nix, and their romance was very innocent.

Anyway, it wasn't awesome, but I think there is potential. I really hope there is a sequel, because the ending felt rushed and it wasn't romantic enough for me. I really wanted Lena to be happy, but she made some choices that I wouldn't have made.

Predictable, but cute, cool for summer reading. (specially if you're on the beach!)
