Beauty and the Beast by Jan Brett - ADVISABLE

Brett, Jan  Beauty and the Beast G.P. Putnam and Sons, 1989.  PICTURE BOOK  Content: G.

This is the story of Beauty and the Beast.   A poor merchant father, comes across an enchanted castle on his way home.  He eats and rests at the castle, and as he is leaving he plucks a rose from the garden to give to his daughter.  A beast emerges and requires the merchant to become his prisoner, unless he will bring his daughter to the castle.  The merchant begs to say goodbye to his girls and then he will return himself, but his youngest daughter hearing the beast’s request agrees to take her father’s place.

This is a lovely version of Beauty and the Beast, the illustrations are very detailed and the story’s main points are explained simply.
