Lipman Pike: America’s First Home Run King - OPTIONAL

Michelson, Richard  Lipman Pike: America’s First Home Run King  Illustrated by Zachary Pullen  Sleeping Bear Press, 2011.  $16.95 PICTURE BOOK  Content: G.

Lip is a Jewish baseball player that is believed to have been one of the first baseball players to get paid to play.  This story follows his life in quick succession from a young boy working in his dad’s store, to a young adult playing baseball and ends with him opening up his own store in his adult years.  Lip’s story is unique and worth learning about; however, this telling of the story doesn’t have great transitions from the different time periods within his life making it feel incomplete and choppy.
