Invincible Microbe by Murphy and Blank - ADVISABLE

Murphy, Jim and Alison Blank Invincible Microbe: Tuberculosis and the never-ending search for a cure, 122 p.

Scrofula, consumption, tuberculosis – since the beginning of time, this disease has killed millions, if not billions and new mutations, combined with poor living conditions, inadequate diets and insufficient health care around the world mean that we will probably never be free of this killer.  First looking at it, I thought that Murphy and Blank’s book was just too much for a student to relate to – but found my self reading swiftly and easily and being fascinated by the information.  The authors have plenty of illustrations and photographs and combine them with interesting first person stories to bring their subject to life.  Shame on me for doubting! Great new non-fiction to promote reading for class, for personal enjoyment or for a Common Core related assignement.
