This is the story of a young boy named Rownie living in a very interesting city called Zombay. Since his big brother is missing, he lives with other orphan children in the eclectic home of a witch named Graba. She sends them on errands and doesn’t bother feeding them. One day Rownie sneaks off to watch a goblin play and his life is changed. He must run away from Graba, who doesn’t want to let him go, and he must learn how to act. The goblins teaching him the art of mask wearing, and it will take all his new acting skills, as well as old, to escape the grasp of Graba, find his brother, and save the town from a flood.
This is a wonderful book because the author managed to create a truly unique setting that was captivating and enthralling. The plot was odd, but totally believable  as the author is obviously talented. Students will love this sort of creepy but interesting world –full of danger and magic and strange inhabitants.
