Feinstein, John Go For the Gold, 314 p. Knopf (Random), 2012. $17. Content: G (3 swears).
Stevie Thomas has a new big sports story to report – only this time it is his girlfriend Susan Carol. The one inch height and the few pounds of muscle she has gained means that her butterfly time has gone from outstanding high school to Olympic competitor practically overnight. And when Susan’s family gets offered a lot of money towards sponsorships – especially if she brings home a gold from London – some dangerous types come sniffing around. It is up to Stevie and his reporter friends to uncover the rats, because Susan Carol is readying for the race of her life.
Feinstein has written a perfect piece of Olympic fiction – even though I know the Games haven’t started yet, I felt like everything he wrote probably actually happened. I hope there are more sports for Stevie and Susan to investigate!
