Mingle, Pamela Kissing Shakespeare, 340 p. Delacorte (Random), 2012. $18. Language: PG (20 swears, 0 ‘f’); Mature Content: PG (LOTS of talk of wanting, but nothing happens besides some clothes removal).
One minute Miranda is standing on the roof of her school. The next she has been whisked back through time to meet William Shakespeare as a young man. Just because her parents are famous Shakespearean actors and Miranda is a modern girl, doesn’t mean that she is an expert – nor is she really willing to seduce Will, as Stephen, the man who kidnapped her, wants her to. But if she doesn’t sleep with Will, does that mean he will become a priest as the very charismatic Thomas Cook wants of him. Does this mean that none of his famous plays will actually be written? What is Miranda willing to sacrifice for the good of the world?
If you would like a book that immerses you into life during the Elizabethan era, this book has an abundance of description of the sights and sounds and way of life. These rest of it is somewhat stilted, but doesn’t completely fail at its premise. The cover will draw some girls to it, but I don’t think they will pass it on when they are done.
