In Lydia Dare's debut trilogy, Regency England has gone to the wolves! He gets crankier and crankier as the moon gets full...The rules of Society can be beastly—especially when you're a werewolf and it's that irritating time of the month. Simon Westfield, the Duke of Blackmoor, is rich, powerful, and sinfully handsome, and has spent his entire life creating scandal and mayhem. It doesn't help his wolfish temper at all that Miss Lily Rutledge seems not the least bit afraid of him, and in fact, may be as untamable as he is...A woman whose charm is stronger than the moon...When Lily's beloved nephew's behavior becomes inexplicably wild, she turns to Simon, the boy's cousin and guardian, for help. But Simon's idea of assistance is far different than hers, and Lily finds herself ensconced in his house and engaged to the rogue. They both may have bitten off more than they can chew when each begins to discover the other's darkest secrets...
A Certain Wolfish Charm has been on my mind since last year, mostly because it's an historical romance with werewolves. I'm all about historical romance right now, and werewolves are still one of my favorite paranormal creatures.
Simon Westfield, the Duke of Blackmoor, is very rich and handsome, but he's a walking scandal. He doesn't care about the scandals because they hide his darkest secret, he's a werewolf.
Miss Lily Rutledge is a twenty something aunt, taking care of her orphan nephew. His guardian, Simon Westfield, just sends money, and that's all right with Lily until her nephew's behavior starts getting uncontrollable. So she decides to ask for his guardian's help, but wasn't expecting to find a very irritable werewolf about to change because of the full moon.
Simon is scared for Lily. He knows he can't control himself when he's so close to the full moon, and less when he's so attracted to Lily. She's everything he can't have, but he can't let her go either. He's the typical alpha male, expects everyone to follow his orders and his temper is bad. But he's protective too, and he will protect Lily even for himself.
Lily is very sweet and have no idea about the werewolf's blood in her nephew's family. There were hints about something happening around the full moon, but who would have thought about it? Besides, she was more worried about Simon always far from her.
Lily and Simon are meant to be together, they complement each other and Lily is strong enough to be with him. I liked them together, and I liked that Lily's nephew was not forgotten, specially by Simon. Also, Simon's family are a blast! He has two brothers, who are werewolves too and will have their own story on the next books, and their mother was very cool, respected and helpful with Lily.
The story was good, but I kept expecting something more. I don't know what, maybe more passion and more about Lily and Simon's life together after Lily discovered his secret. But still, A Certain Wolfish Charm was a very enjoyable read and I think I'd like to read the second book, Tall, Dark and Wolfish.
