Taemon lives in city where everyone has the same “magical” ability called psi, its just a part of normal every day life. They can move things with their mind, and they use it all the time –to eat, to drive, to get dressed, and even open doors. When the competition between Taemon and his older brother reaches a breaking point, Taemon is sent to live in the city where powerless people are banished. He finds out he has an aunt who lives there, and that its not all the bad. Still he worries about his parents, and when the threat of war with the outside world breaks out, Taemon must find a way to use his unique abilities to return and help.
This fantastic book has a cool dysmorphic feel, a world so much like our own –a possible reality. Yet so different, in a cold strange alien way. The sibling rivalry is downright creepy. The characters are interesting and well developed. The story is one of the most unique and creative one’s I have read in a long time! Students seem to be drawn to these world gone wrong books –like hunger games. I think this will be a big hit with young readers.
