Cascone, Annette and Gina The Beast of Baskerville (Deadtime Stories)192 pgs. Starscape, 2012. $11.13. (Rating: Violence G, Language G, Sexual G)
Poor Jimmy is the town nerd, on top of that he lives in a cursed house that all the kids avoid –they have heard about the witch and her son, the beast of Baskerville. Ditching Jimmy’s birthday party, the other kids have a neighborhood camp out and street games. When one by one they start to go missing, even Jimmy, the beast is constantly blamed. Adam tries to keep his head, but things are really going downhill.
This has been my favorite Deadtime story so far. The cover is sort of dumb, but the story was really fantastic, each cliffhanger being a something easily explainable. I like the interaction between the kids too, which flowed really well, and was very believable. Which makes the supernatural component even more scary. Students who like to play outside in the summer will be totally creeped out by this book!
