Shaking the Foundation by Sylvia A. Johnson-ADVISABLE

Johnson, Sylvia A., Shaking the Foundation: Charles Darwin and the Theory of Evolution. Twenty-First Century Books, 2013. Pgs. 88. INFORMATION.

IN 1860, Darwin said “I cannot think that the world, as we see it, is the result of chance and yet I cannot look at each separate thing as the result of design.” His words show the struggle many scientists face: Where do we come from? In this book, the author uses letter and other contemporary sources to shed light on this age-old debate and the personalities behind it.

An objective look that sheds light on an age-old question in a unique way. The layout is well-done. The use of primary resources., photos, and maps complement the text and add a new layer to the information provided. Readers interested in evolution or need to read a non-fiction will enjoy reading this book. Included are a glossary, group activity, source notes, bibliography, suggested reading, and an index.
