McGhee, Alison The Case of the Missing Donut Illustrated by Isabel Roxas Dial Books, 2013. $16.99 PICTURE BOOK Content: G.
A little boy who likes to dress up like a sheriff goes to the bakery and picks up a dozen donuts. While carrying them home, one gets squished and the Sheriff decides to eat it. When he eats the donut, he gets powder all over his face, so everyone they pass asks him how his donut was, but he thinks they must have x-ray vision to know that he ate the donut. When he gets home he looks in the mirror and realizes his mistake.
The illustrations in this book are cute, but the overall story is not super entertaining. The mystery of how everyone knows he ate a donut is obvious to the reader and almost confusing for small kids because it is so obvious.
