Penguin’s Hidden Talent by Alex Latimer - ESSENTIAL

Latimer, Alex Penguin’s Hidden Talent.  Peachtree, 2012.  $16.  PICTURE BOOK.  Content: G.

All of the animals have impressive talents to share in the talent show --  except Penguin.  His friends try to help him discover a talent, but it isn’t until after the show is all over that Penguin learns he does have special skills.

What a great book to share with pretty much any age group!  I loved the illustrations, the quirkiness of the narration and the message can’t be beat.

Bear Says Thanks by Karma Wilson - ESSENTIAL

Wilson, Karma Bear Says Thanks.  Illustrated by Jane Chapman.  Margaret K. McElderry, 2012.  $16.99 Content:  G PICTURE BOOK.

Bear is bored and misses his friends so he decides to host a big feast!  Bear’s friends come, one by one, with a variety of food to share.  Bear is so thankful and always says, “Thanks!” The only problem is Bear has nothing to contribute because his cupboards are bare.  What is Bear to do?

As I read this book to my little girl, she was glued to the colorful illustrations and my husband would even chime in by saying, “Thanks!”  Love the message of the book that we have so much to be thankful for.  It not only teaches you to say, “Thanks,” but it also teaches that you don’t have to GIVE people tangible things but you can DO things for people as well.
