Review: Sing Me To Sleep by Angela Morrison (Republished)

Title: Sing Me To Sleep
Author: Morrison, Angela
Publisher: Razorbill
Release Deate: March 4th 2010
ISBN: 1595142754 (isbn13: 9781595142757)
Pages: 301
Age: Young Adult
Summary from Goodreads:
THE TRANSFORMATION
Beth has always been “The Beast”—that’s what everyone at school calls her because of her awkward height, facial scars, and thick glasses. Beth’s only friend is geeky, golden-haired Scott. That is, until she’s selected to be her choir’s soprano soloist, and receives the makeover that will change her life forever.
THE LOVE AFFAIR
When Beth’s choir travels to Switzerland, she meets Derek: pale, brooding, totally dreamy. Derek’s untethered passion—for music, and for Beth—leaves her breathless. Because in Derek’s eyes? She’s not The Beast, she’s The Beauty.
THE IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE
When Beth comes home, Scott, her best friend in the world, makes a confession that leaves her completely torn. Should she stand by sweet, steady Scott or follow the dangerous, intense new feelings she has for Derek?
THE HEARTBREAK
The closer Beth gets to Derek, the further away he seems. Then Beth discovers that Derek’s been hiding a dark secret from her …one that could shatter everything.
Beth, one of those girls who suffer a miserable life at school for being ugly, becomes beautiful and finds love. But the end may not be a happily ever after, because (prince) Derek has a secret.

Beth is a nice girl, but has low self-esteem, is submissive and too dependent for my taste. Obviously, to live your life by accepting the name of The Beast is not pleasant, and that is why a major change in her appearance really helps her. Gradually, Beth stops thinking she is ugly, gets out of the shell and become something else.

Derek is the prince of the story, and probably you will fall in love with him. He is nice boy; sweet, loving, and way too sexy to be the good guy. It's almost perfect. Almost. Although it's obvious that he loves Beth, he disappears many times, and every time he goes away, his little secret becomes more and more uncomfortable.

Of course, there is a love triangle. Scott, Beth's best friend, who sees beyond her outside. I didn't really liked him, he was way too intense, insistent and even cruel. But in the end he was just another boy in love.

I liked the fact that the characters sing. They have a great voice, and participate in choirs. It is an activity that it's never taken into account for young adult's books (first time I read about it. Also, I liked that the author include some lyrics, which sometimes appeared out of nowhere, mixed with the thoughts of the protagonist and helps you understands how she feels.

The only thing I'm not convinced is that the story doesn't focus on a single topic. First, its Beth's  transformation, then she finds love, but her best friend starts to bother, and finally Derek's big secret comes out. When I finished the book, Beth's beauty problem seemed so far away. I think that if the author had focused only on the love story, it would have been better.

The writing grabs you and doesn't let you go until you finish the book; And although it started being unoriginal, the ending left me surprised. I wasn't expecting it at all!

It's a book I enjoyed, and at the end, cried a lot. So if you decide to read it, be prepared (with tissues!).

Blog Tour ~ Angela Morrison | GUEST POST: My thoughts about teen love

Hi everyone!! Please welcome Angela Morrison, author of Sing Me to Sleep | Taken by Storm | Unbroken Connection | Cayman Summer, who was kind enough to give us a few words about teen love.
“My thoughts about teen love”
Teen love? I think when we talk about teen love it’s often about the popular girls getting it on with the popular guys and everybody else is kind of left out.
That feeling of being left out of love is painful. I remember it so well. It is during our teen years when we first feel that ache in our hearts only someone very special can fill.
I worry when I hear about girls who will do anything—risk their health, their safety, their very soul—to join the game only to find they’ve fallen for something false. Love that demands more of you than you want to give isn’t really love at all, is it? It’s counterfeit and far more painful than those initial pangs of loneliness.
If you abuse the physical side of love, it can numb you to the deeper spiritual essence that I believe is true love. We are all divine creatures and true love is a divine emotion. Don’t let anyone rob the ability to feel that from you. Protect your heart. Protect your soul. Be patient. Sometimes finding real love takes time. Wait for it. It’s worth it.
When I write about teens falling in love, I don’t write about the popular kids and the games they play. I write about the girls who are left out. They fall for guys who need them desperately. Their journey through these emotions—from fascination to adoration to true love—fascinates me.
There is nothing quite so romantic as a first kiss—and a second, and a third one! There is nothing as exciting, tempting or frightening as the first stirrings of desire you feel. As my characters face these situations in the context of their beliefs or lack of belief, I always try to be honest, frank and realistic.
I often hear from readers who are touched by that and see themselves in my characters. That’s exciting to me. That is why I write. Thanks so much for listening today.
All my love,
Angela

What do you think? Do you have a different opinion or the same? Did you find love being a teenager? Leave your thoughts and stories about teen love in the comments :)

Review: Taken by Storm by Angela Morrison

Title: Taken by Storm
Author: Angela Morrison
Series: Taken by Storm, #1
Release Date: March 5th 2009
Publisher: Razorbill
Pages: 320
Age: Young Adult
When Michael Walden—a deep-sea diver who lost his parents in a violent hurricane—arrives in town, Leesie sees someone who needs her. They fall for one another, even though his dreams are tied to the depths of the ocean and hers to salvation above.
Will their intense chemistry be too strong to resist?
Leesie and Michael must make the hardest choice of their lives: whether to follow their beliefs or their hearts.
Readers will be swept away by this tale of forbidden romance told in online chats, Leesie’s chapbook poems, and Michael’s dive log. It’s as steamy as Twilight and just as clean.
I wasn't very sure to read this book, because I'm not a Mormon. But in the end I read it, and really liked it.

Leesie is a Mormon girl. She has lots of rules, and her dream is to go to college. She can't stand being at her school, where people doesn't understand or respect her beliefs. But then she mets Michael, and everything changes.

Michael just lost both of his parents at a hurricane. He's broken, and doesn't feel like living. But the he mets Leesie, and finally he starts to feel better.

Their romance is very intense and beautiful, but at the same time sad. Michael is trying to get over his parent's death, and he needs Leesie. And Leesie, for the first time, is in love. But she is a Mormon, and some of her rules are no tongue kissing, no sex or anything like that.

I can't relate to Leesie's beliefs, but I liked her. She was always a strong girl and I respect her because of that. Of course, when love and passion hits her, she can't decide what to do. She wants to be with Michael, but does that has to mean loosing her beliefs and dreams?

Michael was way too intense for me. He was very sad, and he needed help. But with Leesie, he feels good. He wants to be with her, he is in love with her...but at the same time, he was always pushing her. Sometimes he said things to her that I didn't like, like she had to "prove her love". But at the same time, I kind of understood him. Michael thinks all of her rules are stupid, because he doesn't have the same beliefs.

Their romance is sad because you know that it isn't going to work, unless one of them yield. Is it going to be Leesie, or Michael?

This is the second book I read from this author and it didn't disappointed me. Her writing is beautiful and I even cried at the ending, because even when my favorite endings are the happy ones, this one is kind of happy but very real.

I only read it in a couple of hours and I want to read the next one, called Unbroken Connection.

Blog Tour ~ Author Interview: Elizabeth J. Kolodziej (Vampyre Kisses)

Hello guys! Today is the first time I'm participating on a Blog Tour, and I'm extremely happy. I had the amazing opportunity to be the first one and ask some questions to Elizabeth J. Kolodziej, author of the book Vampyre Kisses. Check them out!
Welcome Liz! Thank you for being here today :). Can you please tell us in a few words about your book Vampyre Kisses?
Vampyre Kisses is a story about a young woman, Faith, who finds out that she, is a witch and that this man, Trent, that she has been spending time with is a 400-year old vampire. Of course the way that she finds out isn’t the best way one could find out someone is a vampire, but what are you going to do? So there are gems that are stolen from the werewolf royalty and vampire master. Due to lots of circumstances Faith must learn how to control her powers in time to help her friends and get the gems back.
What/who was you inspiration for this book?
I actually have had a lot of inspirations for this book. There was no one thing. I have read so many books on vampires, witches, and werewolves and I guess after awhile I wanted to make my own. But the people around me, my friends, family, teachers, other authors, musicians, actors, they have all inspired me in so many different ways. In the end I wrote this book because I wanted to inspire others as much as those people have inspired me.
Who is your favorite character?
That’s a great question that I do not recall many people asking me! It’s funny but for this moment in time Kane is my favorite character. I think a lot of that has to do with how he has me write out his history and speak for him. The way he talks to me and the things I find out are just so much fun and interesting. Along with the fact that he is such a dick at times.
What was the hardest aspect of writing Vampyre Kisses?
The time that it takes was really the hardest aspect. I started writing this when I was around 19 years old. Well, when you are young the last thing you want to do is give up going out with friends to write. I think that is why it took me around 5 years to finish. Now that I am older I am better at working out schedules and such but no matter what you do you still give up a lot of personal time to spending writing a book. You have to really want to finish it.
If Vampyre Kisses was made into a movie, who would you cast?
Truthfully, I would probably cast nobodies. I have a lot of trouble seeing anyone has Faith or Trent, especially when it comes to looks. So it would have to be someone that in unheard of.
What's next for you? Are you planning to write more books?
I am actually working on the second book as we speak. I am really hoping to have the manuscript finished by the end of this year. Hopefully I can find a publishing house to take up the second book so I do not have to self publish again, which is difficult all in it self. But you will see more werewolf history in the second book and the same old characters much more developed!
