Plants vs. Zombies: The Three Little Pigs Fight Back by Annie Auerbach - OPTIONAL

Auerbach, Annie Plants vs. Zombies: The Three Little Pigs Fight Back  Illustrated by Charles Grosvenor and Jeremy Roberts  Harper, 2013.  $4.99  PICTURE BOOK  Content: PG.

The three little pigs are visited by a wolf, but he doesn't stick around because the zombies run him off.  The first little pig tries to plant peashooters and other vegetables that he can fight off the zombies with, but it’s not enough.  He goes to his second brother’s home and they fight off the zombies as best they can, but it isn’t until they get to the third brothers home, with a big garden full of zombie fighting plants, that they finally succeed.  They celebrate by soaking in a mud bath.

This is a book loosely based on the Three Pigs with the characters using the Plants vs. Zombies game vegetables as their weapons.  Besides the fact that using vegetables to kill zombies makes no sense (it’s obviously part of the game), I think the overall effect is weird.  The colors are bright and maybe if your readers are interested in the app game they will be entertained by this story.  It’s definitely for a limited audience.

EL (K-3) OPTIONAL.  Reviewer, C. Peterson.
